Volunteering at Target

Since becoming an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), Target has placed a greater emphasis on supporting our local community in Selsey and the surrounding areas. Both through volunteering days and fundraising for charities, giving back has become an important part of the business’s culture.

As part of our employee perks and commitment to ESG, each member of the Target team gets two paid days a year to complete volunteering work of their choice.

Throughout August, several members of the team used their volunteering days to support a range of local causes, each contributing in various ways and making a difference across the community.

One group spent the day at St Wilfrid’s Hospice’s Terminus Road shop in Chichester, sorting donated clothing and preparing items for resale. The extra help meant donated items could be sorted, prepared and out on display on the shop floor a lot quicker.

The support for St Wilfrid’s continued in Selsey, where Team Target helped refresh the High Street shop with a new Back-to-School themed window display. Alongside this, school uniforms were priced and prepared for local families ahead of the new school year.

Others spent their volunteering days with the Manhood Wildlife and Heritage Group, an organisation Target has worked with for a number of years. This month involved surveying the Pollinator Highway by counting insects and recording wildflowers across the local area on a sunny summer’s day.

Supporting the local community has become a natural part of life at Target. Volunteering has given employees the chance to get involved with projects close to home and make a positive difference to the area.

Target would like to thank all the organisations that have provided these opportunities to get involved. There will be plenty more to come over the next few months, with Christmas volunteering already in the works.
