Celebrating Target’s Transition to an Employee-Owned Trust

Target is proud to announce that, after a four-year transition, the business is now officially an independent Employee-Owned Trust (EOT).

What does this mean?

An EOT is a business ownership model where the company is owned on behalf of its employees through a trust. Rather than focusing on individual shareholders, it exists to benefit the workforce as a whole and to support sustainable, long-term growth. Target first made the decision to transition to an EOT in 2022.

This change ensures that Target’s people share in the success they help create. The EOT structure supports long-term stability and allows for continued investment in people, technology and innovation. A shared sense of ownership brings pride, quality and commitment across the business, with employees directly benefiting from the success achieved.

The end of the transition was celebrated earlier last month on International Women’s Day, when Target’s founder, Lisa Lyon, shared an inspiring speech with the team. She spoke about her journey as a female business owner and the challenges she faced along the way. Her decision to move the business into an Employee-Owned Trust was a personal one, shaped by her values and her commitment to supporting the local Selsey community where Target is based.

In her own words;

“Selling to my incredible team felt like the right thing to do, rewarding them for supporting me on my journey and sharing the financial success with all of them, which I know will have a huge impact on everyone and our community. With our values instilled at the heart of everything we do, we will continue to innovate, solve client issues, and serve them with the bespoke, first-class service they are used to.”

The moment was also commemorated with an exclusive Target event in London, bringing together long-standing clients who partnered with Target from the very beginning.

Becoming an official EOT marks the start of the next exciting chapter for Target.
