Join the 99% Club

Last month, Target Professional Services joined the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) at Professional Pensions Live 2026 to share a joint perspective on data accuracy and why simply meeting The Pensions Regulator’s expectations is no longer enough.

The session highlighted the need to shift the focus towards maintaining data accuracy on an ongoing basis, rather than treating data cleansing as a one-off exercise.

Across the industry, many schemes still take a reactive approach, with data improvements driven by triggers such as a buyout or dashboard connections. While this may resolve issues in the short term, it doesn’t prevent the inevitable decay in data quality that follows.

Together, Target and the Pension Protection Fund demonstrated what a different and more proactive approach looks like in practice. By moving away from one-off projects to ongoing, repeatable processes, the Pension Protection Fund built a model that maintains accuracy over time.

At its core, the issue is about switching from a reactive mindset to a more proactive approach. Cleaning data should not be seen as just a compliance requirement, but rather an operational benefit. By maintaining accurate and up-to-date data, organisations can improve efficiency and reduce administrative burdens, delivering better outcomes for both administrators and scheme members.

There were four key takeaways from the session:

1. Accuracy is an ongoing discipline
2. Data is an operational asset
3. Why be reactive with the costs and resources that it brings?
4. Why not be proactive, continuous and controlled?

Target’s goal is to help more schemes join the 99% Club by encouraging a change in mindset towards proactive, long-term data management. By embedding data quality into day-to-day operations, schemes can achieve lasting improvements that benefit both administrators and members.
